We are living very robotic lives with minimum time for ourselves. Most of
people are doing desk jobs because of the internet and the comforts it
brings with it. But it is making us unhealthy. More and more people are
getting stressed and anxious every day. The best way to avoid it is with
exercise.
The problem does not end here, most people experience gym anxiety that
keeps them away from a gym or fitness center. The fear of being not fit
enough and being judged for your body overwhelms most of the people. Like
deciding to go to the gym is not enough that now they are stressed about
being judged by a gym junkie.
Just know that you are not the only one experiencing this feeling it is a
global thing. 50 kg on the ground, chalk in the air, grunting, and sweating
bodybuilder, this sight can cause low self-esteem in almost everyone. But
remember they were once where you are now.
Here are some tips for that will surely help you overcome your gym anxiety
and motivate you to get into better shape.
Make a routine and stick to it
Make a routine and write it down on paper. Planning before time is very
important. This way you will have a direction that you can follow. You can
hold yourself accountable for not doing what you planned. There is nothing
like guilt that keeps you going. By making a routine you will take out the
“choice” from the equation. At first, it will look like a ginormous task
but you will see that with the passage of time your life will fall into
line with your routine. You might think in the beginning that this routine
is tempering with the flow of your life but gradually you will realize that
this routine will become your means of blowing off your troubles for a
moment and take control of your life.
Focus on your work
Don’t compare yourself with others in life especially in the gym and more
importantly with people who have been going to a gym for a long time. Never
forget that no one is born like that, they were like you in the beginning,
some might be in worse shape than you are right now. Take the positive out
of it.
Remember, your competition is with your former self, not others. Focus on
what you have achieved. Make small goals and try to accomplish them. Don’t
focus on the results, concentrate on your routine and how you can continue
it.
Hire a trainer or bring a friend
Hiring a trainer is probably the best approach. He will guide you on how to
use the equipment properly. Moreover, with the personal experience, he will
be able to tell you how you can get out this anxiety.
If you don’t want a trainer to bring a friend or a family member with you.
The idea is that you have someone you know with you somewhere you are not
comfortable. You can talk to your friends and learn from different
situations.
Final Words
A word of advice, never stops doing something just because you are afraid
that people will judge. It’s the way of the world. Focus on what is
important for you.
